Hi, I'm Ian

I've been building websites since 2009 — long enough to have coded sites from scratch, then watched WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and Shopify make that far less necessary for most small businesses. I've worked across all of them, and I still hand-code a custom HTML/PHP site when that's genuinely the better fit rather than forcing a platform on a project it doesn't suit.

My background is military, not marketing. I'm a veteran, and web design started as something I did on the side — alongside a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Northern Colorado and an MBA from the University of Texas. During the pandemic, local businesses around Evans and Augusta needed to move online fast, and I started helping. That's where I found the real gap: small business owners could find plenty of people to build them a website, but almost no one who'd stick around, explain the decisions in plain language, and answer the phone eight months later. That gap became Bearhype Web Design, launched in 2019.

I love the craft side of this — a page that's fast, reads clearly, and looks like nothing else in your industry. But the part I actually look forward to on a Monday is the relationship: getting to know a business well enough that the site sounds like the owner, not like a template. My favorite projects are almost always small businesses, because that's where a good website changes something real — a full inbox, a booked-out calendar, a slow season that isn't so slow anymore.
